KS3 Science
Curriculum Intent
Science is a way of discovering what’s in the universe, how those things work today, how they worked in the past and how they are likely to work in the future.
At Red balloon we follow the national curriculum guidance for KS3 Science. Pupils studying KS3 science will begin to see the connections between biology, chemistry and physics and become aware of some of the big ideas underpinning scientific knowledge and understanding. The order of the units has been chosen by thinking deeply about the connections between topics in each subject area of biology, chemistry or physics. The curriculum has been developed to unpin the core knowledge and skills required for further scientific studies beyond KS3 such as GCSE or ASDAN. Science is the study of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment. Our KS3 curriculum introduces practical science to students allowing them to develop analytical, numerical and evaluative skills.

Content

The national curriculum for science aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics
  • develop understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science through different types of science enquiries that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them
  • are equipped with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and for the future.
